Healthcare assistants support practice nurses with their daily work and carry out tasks such as phlebotomy (taking blood), blood pressure measurement, carrying out ECGs and spirometry, and new patient checks.

They also help in the running of certain aspects of the Chronic Disease Clinics under the supervision of the GPs.

They can also act as a chaperone when a patient or other staff member requests one.

They may administer certain injections under the direct authorisation of the GP

Please note - our healthcare assistants are not registered doctors with the GMC. Although they may hold medical degrees from abroad, they strictly work in the capacity of healthcare assistants and not as doctors.
